Tequila Boom and My Head is Still Booming

Anyone who says there is no night life in Seychelles hasn't been to the Tequila Boom. The club has been open for a couple of months now and is rapidly becoming THE place to be on a Saturday night. It's supposed to be free for ladies on Saturdays and Wednesdays unless they have a show on. And recently, they have had shows every Saturday ...

Last Saturday was Pous Sa Dife night. The show started after midnight and went on for over an hour. Now, whilst I actually like these guys, an hour of them is too much in one go. Combine the monotony of the music together with too many people smoking and it's no wonder a lot of people were hanging around outside the club where I went to escape.

Still, it was the best show so far. The first one I saw was 4 body building guys prancing around the stage with 4 lifeless girls circling them. The latter were supposed to be sexy, but their pole-dancing was more of an ayo, mon fatige (for non-Seychellois: this is the most used phrase in Seychelles. It means I'm tired, but denotes bone-weary fatigue and fed-upness) than sensual undulating.

The second was supposed to be a Latin Dance show. Another was supposed to be African Dancing. I missed that one, but heard that it consisted of a lot of obscene slithering about on the floor and had very little to do with the Dark Continent, more with island-style fornication.

The Tequila Boom really is the best club on the island now. I just wish they'd scrap the pathetic attempts at live entertainment and let me in for free again...

  1. OK, now I know what the people are looking at and why all those white guys have one hand in their pockets!

Thanks for keeping your blog alive; nice to have a real-time Seychellois observer.

Anyone remember the Takamaka Room near Anse aux Pins? :)

  2. RichA - Nice to have a regular reader and commenter :-)

Takamaka Room was Coral Strand, no? The Katiolo is near Anse aux Pins and is still going strong. And people are still racing down there in the wee hours of the morning ...

  3. Yes, Katiolo! I love that word; what does it mean? An old girlfriend and her family lived near by; you could hear music from the Katiolo on their veranda. Little Esmeralda Franchette, Oh where are you now? :)

    Stay cool my friend,

  4. "Tequila Boom" still missing something...dont know what, but no feeling there. Better i think still go to "Lovenut" since they fixed their smoke problem, always nice crowd and full.Plus that drinks not so crazy expencive as at Tequila.
Or Katiolo - still my favorite on Wednesdays and ladies free.

  5. I would definitly say that Tequila Boom IS THE place 2 be!! oh yess!!! I had never been to a nightclub before and tequila was my first! I loved it!! The lighting effects with the laser ones and the smoke and white light!! Gosh!! Blew me away!! ;) I just wish the dance floor was a bit bigger because by around 3am, its packed!! People end up dancing on the tables!! which i must say is fun to watch! I can't wait to go again!! I love that place and recommend it to everyone!! One good thing about it, is that you can breath in there.. not like Lovenut!! The Dj is sooo GOOD!! And i'm serious! he's really friendly and plays all your requests as many times as you go up to his little Dj box!!

    Tequila Boom is the BOMB!!
In fact i'm going there on Saturday! And i'm extremely excited!

  7. I'm going to Mahe Seychelles the first week of June and I was wondering if there is a nightclub that plays some spanish music like Salsa, Bachata. Has anyone have had this experience at the Tequila Boom or LoveNut?

  8. best nightclub for seychelles is katiolo, open air friendly atmosphere, and the music is wicked, they play from house music to dance, salsa to latino topest hits, r n b to hip hop, garage to top pop chart hits and the hottest local tracks. since dj tony moved there the music has change a lot keep it up dj tony...katiolo has been there for over 30 years n katiolo will live on ;) lovenut has gone down a lot, music is bad too much smoke inside loads of fighting. tequilla boom looks like a box too hot inside, too many smokes, the sound is bad inside the u get only technos n more technos then drop down to a lot of long medleys of segas, the only reason why they say its good cuz people follow crowds, ask them indivudually what they like about a club KATIOLO will have it all...go see for yourself...please do go to tequilla boom n lovenut first then u will see what we means...long live katiolo.

  9. For me tequila boom is a meeting place we cannot categorize it as a night-club it's a large hall with noisy sound bad light efect, the light is not controllable so they whatever they want, the sound is shitty, so there's a lot and a lot of improvement before we can categorize it,since i've been going to night-club all around the world "Lovenut" match all the criteria as best of the best night-club in seychelles and even one the best in Africa , so seychelles people have analyse properly, best nightclub doesn't mean where are the most crowded, there is more technical thing that goes with

  10. These days Katiolo is the place to be!!! We use to go to Tequila Boom each and every Saturday but since it is now illegal to smoke inside a public building the crowd have moved to Katiolo...in fact used to do all three in a single night

  11. I've been inside only once. It was Pajama night or something. It's a nice place but there are quite a lot of people hanging out at the car park so people who don't like such crowds should just avoid the place.
